Carl "Boomer" Stout

Carl “Boomer” Stout has been in the fly fishing industry for over 30 years. He started his river guiding career in 1984 and has been a fishing guide in Colorado, Alaska, and Utah. Boomer began working for Denny Breer at Trout Creek Flies on the Green River in 1990, and has been there ever since.

Boomer is not only a fly fishing guide but makes flies and teaches workshops on fly tying*. As a guide, Boomer believes that a successful fly fishing trip is not only catching the most fish. It is more important to learn about the ecosystem and gain an understanding of the river. He creates ties both for practical uses and for art purposes and teaches workshops on both.

Fly: a lightweight fishing lure that is used with specific angling techniques. Flies are small, fake, and usually handmade, items that look like baitfish, or other fish food items.

Fly tying: the art or craft of making artificial lures for fly fishing.
