Utah Themed Cowboy Boots, Shane Deeter. Utah State Archives, 2016.

Crafting beautiful and functional objects by hand requires great skill and precision. Using available raw materials and traditional knowledge, Utah craftspeople produce pieces that communicate the values of their chosen industry.

Whether used to get the job done or prized as decorative objects, occupational folk arts are a rich, creative outlet that affirms the maker’s membership in a community of workers.

This digital adaptation of the installation “Work, Refined” located at the Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts explores items skillfully crafted by industrious Utahns.
