Unit Plan Overview:
Students create a collaborative “quilt” representative of themselves as individuals with
stories to tell. Lessons highlight the importance of storytelling in art by utilizing traditional
fiber arts as cultural exemplars, including Hmong Applique, Armenian rugs, Hawaiian
modern quilting, pioneer rag rugs.
Lesson Plan Overview:
Students create a mini loom and weave a simple square pattern. Integrating background knowledge from Folk Artist Rag Rugs created by Utah Artists, learners integrate historical, aesthetic, mathematical, and design principles into a product oriented activity.
